The Jays' touchdown takes six plays covering 71 yards in 3:46. Crew Jacobs kicks off to the Patriots with just over four minutes left in the first half.

-
The Patriots waste little time running the ball. Six consecutive running plays, including a back-breaking 53-yard scamper, have the Jays a little disoriented. One of the early runs (above) in the drive has Justin Helm (14) bringing down the Patriots' quarterback. Curtis, however, gets on the scoreboard first, capping a six-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard run into the Jesuit end zone.

-

-
The Robert Brothers - senior Hunt (51) and junior Zack (92) - have played ferociously on defense during the entire season. Coming into the championship game, Hunt is credited with 89 tackles, including 48 solos. He also has 5 sacks, one fewer than younger brother Zack, who is credited with 60 tackles, including 32 solos. Hunt also plays in the fullback position on offense, especially when the team faces a critical short yardage situation, or is deep in the red zone and close to the goal line. Those scenarios explain why Hunt finished the year with 9 touchdowns on 14 carries for 66 yards. He scored all but one or two touchdowns standing up.
-
In his linebacker position, senior Mitchell Melito has an insatiable appetite playing defense, as evidenced by the 106 tackles this season, including 44 solos. In terms of the number of tackles made, Melito holds down the runner-up slot, second only to his teammate Robert Lobrano.
-

-
Charles Jackson returns the ensuing kickoff 19 yards as time expires in the first half. A quick look at the halftime stats gives the Patriots the edge in just about every category: 8 first downs to 6 for the Jays; 130 yards rushing on 24 carries for the Pats vs. 87 yards on 15 attempts for the Jays; 4 of 5 completions for the Patriots that yield 59 yards; 3 of 6 passes for 45 yards for the Jays; 189 yards in total offense for the Patriots vs. 132 for the Jays; 4 of 5 third down conversions for the Patriots vs. 1 of 4 for the Jays; time of possession for the Patriots was 12:04; for the Jays, 8 fewer seconds at 11:56. -
... Trey LaForge, stunned by the impact, is momentarily orbiting somewhere in the solar system. Notice that he maintains a vice grip on the ball...
-
Official attendance for the game was 25,900. As for the number of Jesuit fans, the Blue Jay side of the Superdome sure looked as if more people were there than the other side. This is a reasonable estimate based on photos and "eyewitnesses." Jesuit sold out its allotment of 6,700 advance game tickets. The school keeps $1 for each of the $13 advance sale tickets that were sold.

-
The Jays take up virtually the entire sideline for the invocation and National Anthem.
-

-
... To borrow the title of a current pop music hit, Trey LaForge shakes it off. He looks to the sideline to reassure the coaches that he's ok. His 11-yard run is good for a first down at the Jesuit 43.
-
Chris Mills came into the game having rushed for 1,098 yards on 156 carries, On first down, he nets two yards. -
On third and 2, Chris Mills gets the call and the ball, running through the right side and picking up 14 yards and a first down at the Patriots' 48...
-
... The run by Mills ends the first quarter with two goose eggs still up on the scoreboard. Time of possession for the Jays: 6:31; Patriots: 5:29.
-
Jesuit fullback Alex Rabalais catches a short pass and Chris Mills picks up a yard, and soon enough, the Jays are facing fourth and 1 on the Patriots' 39. Coach Mark Songy says go for it, but the Jays can't get the snap off in time and are hit with a 5-yard delay of game penalty.
